World Capital of Tango

Buenos Aires is a great destination for horse riders. Here you can find great options to do some horse riding, play Polo, do Jumping and to visit estancias.

Buenos Aires is the capital of Argentina and where most of the population resides. Located in the Pampas Region, most of the landscape is plain except for the sierras (small mountains) located in the beautiful area of “Tandil” and “Sierra de la Ventana”. Its mild weather is one of its main attractions for tourism, it has all 4 seasons, and its deep blue sky is always showing. As a result of its weather and fertile soil, it is an excellent region for crops and cow breeding. Buenos Aires is the cradle of the traditional Argentine “estancias”. This region is also called “Pampa Humeda” (the Humid Pampa in English) and it is one of the most fertile soils in the world.

Buenos Aires’ charm lies in the perfect merge between the historical and cultural legacy (result of the variety of immigrants – mostly Europeans – that came to the new world looking for a new beginning, and the rural traditions inherited from gauchos). Buenos Aires city offers an array of entertainments: its exquisite gastronomy, its long, fun nightlife, and its unique neighborhoods -such as La Boca, Palermo Viejo, Puerto Madero, San Telmo. It is simply impossible to be bored in this city!

For horse lovers

This province is paradise. Horse lovers can find all equestrian disciplines in its highest competition level. In Palermo you can find the Campo Argentino de Polo (where in November and December the best players and horses of the world perform their best in the 40 goal Palermo Open), the Palermo Racetrack, and the traditional Club Hípico Argentino and Club Hípico Alemán (well-known equestrian clubs).

Pilar (a neighborhood in the outskirts of the city) is known as the capital of polo. It contains more than 200 polo fields -and 14 of the best polo players of the world train and play polo here. Close to Pilar, in the beautiful San Isidro, is the spectacular Jockey Club and San Isidro Horse Racetrack.

Further away from the city, traditional and charming gaucho towns -like San Antonio de Areco, Luján, Carlos Keen, Capilla del Señor, Lobos, and San Miguel del Monte- offer all sorts of equestrian experiences. The best way to get to know this province is riding along its rural roads. Most of them run next to the old train tracks.

Tradition

In all of these towns you can breathe Argentine traditions: gauchos showing their skills with horses and cows, asado, wine, folklore music. San Antonio de Areco is where the “Fiesta de la Tradicion” (Tradition Day) takes place. This show pays tribute to gaucho lifestyle and it’s the most important gaucho celebration in the country. But really, each town has its own celebration, horse parade and “jineteadas” (rodeos), and all of them represent Argentina at its best.
