Between Rivers

If we talk about horses, the love for them has been in the culture of the inhabitants of this province since many years. There are many Polo, Arab and “Criollo” horse breeders in this region. It’s a great place full of farms and the opportunities to go horse riding can be found easily. Also, barrel races are very popular, especially the one celebrated in the town of “La Paz”.

Location and Characteristics

Entre Rios means “between rivers”, and as its name says, it is literally situated between the Uruguay and the Parana rivers. The weather in this province is very pleasant, although it rains quite often. Thanks to this, the region has lots of vegetation. One of the main characteristics of Entre Rios is that it has many islands with long grass and reeds. This provides a great way to feed the cows with organic grass.

Life on the islands is not easy. In the first place, because to get to places with horses and cows you must cross the river swimming – and these waters are deep! In second place, because once on the island, the vegetation gets really wild. This causes the cows to get lost. As a consequence, “gauchos” and “criollo horses” had to improve their skills and strength.

“El Palmar” National Park is the jewel of Entre Rios. Located near the town of Colon, this 8.200 hectare park is home to thousands of Yatay palm trees. The park is really amazing, and visitors can discover it on horseback, walking or paddling on a canoe.

Main City

Another point of interest is the city of Gualeguaychu. This city is just 2 hours and half away from Buenos Aires by car, and it is famous for its carnival and “corsos”. Every year, during carnival season, all the “comparsas” (names given to the different groups that participate in the parade) present their best outfits and dances.

Entre Rios is a province with a lot of history. It has always been important for the government because, due to its location and important rivers, it is very well connected for commercial purposes.
