La Rioja
Orange Soils
La Rioja is home of Talampaya National Park. The province was named by the Diaguita Indians, and it means “Rio Seco del Tala”. Due to the low freshwater flow of the rivers in the area, visitors can walk along its canals and canyons. The park has a very peculiar landscape: its red and orange soil look like something out of a dream, and its canyons interconnect with each other all through the park, creating a natural maze.
Although la Rioja is not a very popular destination, it is becoming more and more well known – especially for wine lovers. It’s also known for its olive oil production. As other destinations of the vast lands of Argentina, the best way to get to know this province is by horse, or driving a car along its endless, lonely roads.
