Apart from producing excellent wine, the Cuyo region offers unique experiences to discover on horses. For those who love riding, this region is a must!

Location

The Cuyo Region, is formed by the provinces of San Juan, San Luis, and Mendoza. It is located in the center and west of Argentina. The region covers a big area from the “San Francisco” path in Catamarca to the “El Planchon” path in the province of Mendoza.

Cuyo is famous all around the world for its wine production. Also, for hosting Mount Aconcagua – with a height of 6.959 metres above sea level. Here, the land offers different and particular views. For example, you can find desert and moonlike landscapes in San Juan while in Mendoza you´ll see vineyards set against a background of mountains and white peaks of the Andes.

It’s attractions

The wine trail is one of the main tourist attractions in Cuyo but it is not the only one. The region is also known thanks to General Jose de San Martin. Him and his army crossed the Andes on horseback with the aim of freeing Latin America from the Spanish colonizers.

Horses are very close to people´s heart in Cuyo. Mendoza is known for being one of the best Criollo Horse breeders in the country. In fact, each year they organize many Criollo Horse competitions. Also, San Luis offers good polo fields and tournaments. Another important activity in San Juan is endurance race. Actually, one of the best endurance teams resides here and it is interesting to know that San Juan and Mendoza are both part of the Endurance National Championship Calendar.

Crossing the Andes by horse is one of the most popular and unique experiences. Furthermore, riding criollo horses along the vineyards and tasting Mendoza`s malbec wine and its excellent gastronomy is also very tempting and exquisite.
