Frequent Asked Questions
Do I need experience to make a ride with Equus Argentina?
Though our strength is to offer custom made riding trips for professionals and amateurs, travelers don’t necessarily need to have previous riding experience. We work with people who have horses for every level and who love to teach beginners how to handle them correctly. We make sure everybody has the chance to have a real experience with horses that they can enjoy. Our wish is that everybody can connect to them as we do and share our passion for the sport. With this being said, we do recommend taking a few horse riding classes before going on one of the rides.
Where can I take a riding lesson if I’m a beginner?
We recommend all our beginner clients to take some riding lessons. This way they can get familiar with horses and gain the trust needed to really enjoy a horse riding trip. The lessons will give you the tools needed to communicate and control your horse safely. It will also teach and train your body muscles for the experience, for there are many of them we use when we ride that we don’t usually do on a daily basis. We offer packages with riding lessons located near Buenos Aires. Here you will also learn how to saddle up a horse, how to un-saddle them, how to put the reins and bridle on, and all about the basic cares of the horse.
What documentation do I need to travel to Argentina?
In general terms Argentina does not require any tourist visa to visit the country, only for very specific cases such as passengers coming from Nigeria. Traveling within your passport’s expiration date is good enough. It may happen today that due to Covid some places require a kind of entry permit, in that case EQUUS Argentina will do all the paperwork needed for you to have a nice holiday.
What measures against COVID 19 are taken for an EQUUS Argentina experience?
Any equestrian activity is usually done in the open air. This automatically reduces the chances of getting infected. Our destinations and training centers are located far from major cities in towns with low population density where there is less risk of infection. All the same, the activities require the use of face masks and other preventive measures such as hand washing and the use of alcohol gel.
Can I participate in polo tournaments, jumping competitions and endurance races while traveling in Argentina?
Yes, you can participate in each discipline mentioned above. If it’s a domestic competition or training there is no need to be registered in any association. Nonetheless, EQUUS Argentina recommends its clients to provisionally enroll in the Argentine Association of Polo or/and in the Argentinian Equestrian Federation, accordingly, because by doing so such entities can provide you with accident insurance.
Polo: you need a provisional handicap from the Argentine Association of Polo to play their tournaments and for club’s internal tournaments. EQUUS Argentina can do this for you.
Endurance: Argentina counts with different race categories: novices (40 and 80 km training for new horses); Nationals (80, 100 and 120 km races); and FEI (international category races). For all of these both horses and riders must be registered in the Argentinian Equestrian Federation. EQUUS Argentina will do this for you!

What do I need to take with me for the trip?
If you are an experienced rider, you’ll probably want to take with you your usual equipment (chaps, boots, helmet, mallets if you play polo, gloves, etc.). If you don’t want to travel with everything there is also the possibility of buying the gear in Argentina where the market is excellent, especially the leather. We can arrange a shopping day if needed in the best places in Buenos Aires. You can check this option in OTHER ACTIVITIES TO DO.
Anyway, it is not essential or necessary for you to have your own equipment. All the destinations EQUUS works with have their own equipment to provide all riders.
What means of transportation are there in Argentina?
The country has various airports but only one of them is international: Ministro Pistarini, in Ezeiza, about 40 minutes away from the city. You can get here from all over the world and also get to all the places in Argentina. There is a smaller airport located in the city, Aeropuerto de Aeroparque, which is great for domestic flights. We recommend flying for long distances.
There are also railroads but these are mainly used to move around Buenos Aires city and province rather than for long distances.
Buses are another good choice for long distances although you should keep in mind that it takes a little longer. Argentina is a country of enormous dimensions, with 3.800 km separating north from south and 1.400 km west from east. A long distance trip on a bus usually takes from 10 to 20 hours.
Generally, the roads are safe and one of the best ways to explore the county is by car. International driving licences are not requested.
Through Equinoxe, EQUUS Argentina can buy all your plane tickets. All our packages include private transportation.
What breed of horses are used for the rides?
The “criollo” is Argentina’s native horse. It’s a descendant from the spanish horse and through the years they have become very strong, rustic and noble, ideal for long distance rides and for working the cattle.
The result of mixing pure racehorses with “criollos” is the argentinian polo horse.
“Criollos”, polo horses, a mixture between “criollos” and polo horses or even with arabs, arabs, all these types of horses can be found in the destinations. Argentina has many options of quality horses to satisfy every clients’ taste.
