As for fishing
This eco lodge is one of the best places for fly fishing in Patagonia, Argentina. Itinerary
- Pick up at Neuquen Airport (from where guests will have a 5 hour ride to Buta Mallin) or by Zapala town ( a 3 hour drive to the estancia). Once at the estancia, guests will be assigned their corresponding room and will be able to get to know the staff and hosts; they will be welcomed with a drink on the terrace of the main house. This is an eco lodge, owners dedicated to minimizing human impact through practices of self-sufficiency. They grow much of their own food in their large organic garden, and produce all of their own grass fed meats. The electricity is produced onsite by hydro turbines, water for showers is heated by fire; they even mill their own wood from trees they have personally planted in their early days on the land.
- Each day of the lodge stay guests will be able to choose among different activities such as horse riding, fly fishing, trekking picnics; they can combine these activities, for example riding from the main house to the river where they can do fly fishing. The philosophy of the owners is that riders get really involved with the horses, therefore those that feel like can take care of their assigned horse during the whole stay.
- Fly Fishing: Trocoman river is borned in the “Valle de las Damas” 1300 meters over sea level in the Andes mountains, and runs for 140 kilometers till it meets with Picunleo river. The Trocoman river ends in Neuquen river (890 meter above sea level). Rainbow trouts (of more than 60 cm) and brown touts are the most popular fish species. Each day guests can go to the river to practice fly fishing and enjoy a picnic by the river bank or in the Trocoman house. There is a riverside sauna in the ranch, an ideal place to relax.
- Dinner will always take place in the main house and guests will be able to share moments with the owners and hosts of the ranch. All ranch staff are very friendly and at the end of each guest's stay they organize a farewell celebration.
Location
Cholar town is the nearest town to the estancia, located in the Ñorquin department in the province of Neuquen Argentina. The access to this town is by provincial road 6, 64 km west from the town of Chos Malal.
Other activities for riders and non riders companions
Most of Patagonia´s activities are related with nature and sport both in summer (trekking, fly fishing, horse rides, lakes) as in winter (ski).
Two hours by car away from the ranch is the Caviahue town. This town is part of Neuquen's province touristic circuit because it is an exclusive ski resort and because of its thermal water hotels and spas. As for skiing, this is a great place to practice the sport because of its location (very close by of the Andes Mountains). The snow is of very good quality and perfect ski days are granted. Also, as it is located in a remote place, it's better for those that are looking for less crowded places. It has top level hotels and every once in a while the town hosts a polo or rugby snow tournament show.
Caviahue is considered one of the best places in the world as for thermal waters. These have many healing properties: medicinal minerals, sludge, algae and vapors (that emanate from the Copahue Volcano). As a matter of fact, there is no other thermal destination in the world that gathers all these healing properties.
Other places to visit near this town are Laguna Escondida, Copahue Volcano, the Agrio waterfalls or Puente de Piedra.
