Polo Week at La Inesita

per person

For polo fans, there is nothing like playing the sport in a beautiful place. La Inesita is in the province of Catarmarca, Argentina, and is the perfect escape for a polo holiday. Nature, horses and great landscapes is what you will find. During this polo week you can learn and improve your polo skills as well as getting to know the place on the back of a horse.

La Inesita is found in the area of Coneta, only 20 minutes away from the city of San Fernando de Catamarca. Mario Guardo, its owner, is a former professional polo player. He played for many years in foreign countries such as the Czech Republic. Back in Argentina, he decided to teach polo lessons and take people out for rides. He’s one of the few people to offer such an interesting way to get to know the province.

The place lies at Mount Ambato’s feet. From the polo field one can observe the vast vegetation characteristic of the region and the mountains. It’s the perfect place to combine polo and nature!

Itinerary

  • Pick up and drop off at San Fernando de Catamarca Airport.
  • Transfer to La Aguada Hotel, a beautiful boutique hotel made of stones that rests in Coneta’s region, a few minutes away from La Inesita polo club. It has five suites with a private bathroom, a living room with a chimney, a bar and even a piano and some musical instruments. The gardens are full of fruit trees and tunas and it has a lagoon and a crystal water spring. It’s an ideal place to rest and enjoy nature. After lunch, Mario will be waiting in the club. There will be a riding and polo lesson to test the riders’ skills. At sunset a typical “picada” will be served in the stables; dinner will be at the hotel.
  • After breakfast you will meet Mario at the stables to start with a lesson and some stick and ball. There will be asado for lunch, followed by some afternoon chuckers. The day ends with an after polo involving beers and more “picada” at the club. Back in the hotel, after getting clean and ready, we’ll take you out to the city to have dinner. The second day will also be all about polo: a lesson in the morning and chuckers in the afternoon. Back in the hotel, you can enjoy some therapeutic massages and then have dinner at La Aguada Hotel.
  • After breakfast, around 10 am, polo lessons and stick and ball at La Inesita. You’ll have a light lunch and then you’ll trail ride through Coneta’s alleys to know the area and the place. You’ll have dinner at La Aguada Hotel.
  • Chuckers and trail ride to the “lavatory”: after breakfast the players will go to La Inesita for a 4 chucker match surrounded by the mountains. After lunch, a trail ride to Los Angeles river. From over here one can walk to the lavatory or natural pool and have a bath. At night, dinner will be in the city of Catamarca.
  • On the fifth day riders will have a free day to enjoy the hotel and its facilities, the gardens, and if they want to they can go to the near zipline to have some more fun.

Other activities for riders and non riders companions

San Fernando de Catamarca is a very interesting place to visit. It’s famous for its colonial architecture (for example, the cathedral Nuestra Señora del Valle and San Francisco de Catamarca’s Church) and for being an important religious centre. One of the most visited places is the Gruta de Nuestra Señora del Valle. It’s a natural cave located at Mount Ambato famous for being the place where an Indian found the image of a virgin between 1.618 and 1.620. Today it’s kept in the Cathedral and it’s said to be the cause of many miracles. The virgin of Nuestra Señora del Valle is the patron saint of all the argentinian northwest.

The city has many museums that teach its history and culture (Bellas Artes Museum, Museo Histórico de la Provincia de Catamarca, Casa de la Cultura). The local markets and its craftsmen are also a good way. You can’t miss the San Fernando del Valle Artisanal Market and the Carpet Factory of North Argentine. These carpets have national and international quality recognition.

Besides the city tour, the most interesting things about this province can be found in the surroundings. Some of the most spectacular places of Catamarca’s puna:

The Taton Dunes: located in Fiambala, some 4 hours away by car from the city. It’s one the tallest dunes around the world. The landscapes were described by the geologist Alfred Stelzner as “sand glaciers”, and they really do resemble the fields of ice over a large surface. It’s one of the best places to practice sandboarding. Near here, in the department of Tinogasta, lies the San Francisco international passage at 4.750 metres above sea level. The routes leading you there are in perfect conditions and allow a panoramic view. You’ll be able to see volcanoes and mountains of all shapes and sizes and species such as flamingos, vicuñas and llamas.
