per person

For those looking for the whole package, this place is like heaven for horse lovers. This Estancia in Cordoba has everything: horse riding, polo and cattle herding. Located in Sierras Chicas, to the north of Cordoba´s city, the Begg family offer their special and unique Estancia for guests to enjoy.

Great destination

Some people say that some of the best horses in the world are found in this Estancia. The National Geographic Traveler magazine listed this place as one of the best destinations in South America. It has around 2.500 hectares to discover by horse. The Begg family, especially Kevin, makes sure that every guest spends a great time on the Estancia. Here, riders can go for a ride every day.

 Activities

The landscape around the farm is lovely. Rocky outcrops give way to grassy hilltops and cascading streams, just waiting to be explored on horseback or on foot. There is work to do every day. The place owns more than 500 cows, Aberdeen Angus. Gauchos work very hard to look after them. Each time they go out to work, guests are invited to join them. It is a great opportunity to participate and experience the amazing cattle herding.

The Begg family has peruvian horses. These are great for long distances, they are very comfortable. They also have Criollo and polo horses. Indeed, the place is great to practice this sport. Guests can take polo lessons and improve their skills. Afterwards, they can play friendly chukkers with the gauchos, like in the old times.

Apart from horse riding, polo and cattle herding, guests have other activities to do. They can improve their Gaucho skills, discover their inner gaucho and learn how to lasso from one of the boys on the estancia. Also, they can enjoy ‘gaucho games’, like barrel racing and sortija.

All about horses

The place is all about horses and the gaucho culture. There are over 100 horses for every level. There are three riding groups going out every day. Depending on their level, guests can join any one of them. The horses are very nice and well trained. They are perfect for beginners.

Itinerary

  • Arrival at Cordoba´s city. The Estancia is located 45 minutes away from the International Airport of Pajas Blancas
  • Check-in at the Estancia and a welcome reception. Guests will be taken to their rooms. The place can host a maximum of 12 people. Besides the main house there are two smaller ones: Las Muñecas and Carpintero. Both can be used. The main house has a dining room, sitting room, the gardens and a swimming pool.
  • Meal times are one of the highlights of a stay at the estancia as they are highly sociable and the hosts are always keen to share their insights into Argentine life. The food is delicious. Of course, asados, empanadas and homemade pasta are a must in the main menu. It has a great combination of international and traditional Argentine cuisine. They have a sustainable kitchen, where the motto is “from the farm to the table”. They have many fruit trees and an orchard. They have a lot of homemade products, like their fig chutney, among many others.
  • They also have a wine-cellar with some of the finest wines from their local vineyards. Kevin Begg is a wine lover and likes to have good ones to offer the guests. They have some of the finest Malbec and Torrontes wines. These are a great option for after an afternoon ride!
  • The principal activity on the estancia is horseback riding. The riding options are virtually limitless, and ride size is kept small and split according to the ability of the riders so that guests can ride at their own speed. There are wonderful varied trails, or guests can help the gauchos in their daily work. Some of the rides are:
  • Ride to the hidden waterfall on the estancia and have a swim in the fresh mountain water.
  • Ride to the ‘Top of the World’ for outstanding 360 views of the estancia. This is the highest point on the farm.
  • Take a sunset ride to the ‘Bellstone’. Here you can learn more about the history of the estancia and then help the gauchos round up and bring in the mares and foals back to the corrals. This is important to keep them safe from predators.
  • Join the gauchos on their daily work, like taking salt out to the cattle herd and checking over the newborn calves. You can participate in all the cattle herding done in the Estancia while you are there. Also, you can test your skills against the gauchos in a round of ‘gaucho games’ including barrel racing and sortija.
  • Polo: you can choose to take a polo lesson. It’s a short session on the ground covering the skills and tactics that are going to be focused on that day. Then, there is a short ‘stick and ball’ session, followed by practice chukkas. You can combine the polo with the trail rides.
  • Visit the local rural school and community Dominican church to get an insight into rural life in the region.
  • Other activities: wine tasting, bird watching, trekking, cooking lessons, Folklore lessons, etc.
