Unique & Outstanding Horse Riding Experiences

Puesto Piedra Trail

per person

Corrientes is an incredible province for horse lovers. Going horse riding on Criollo horses is a spectacular adventure. The Estancia that makes this possible shares the love for this animal. They have their own Criollo breed, who are trained right there.

In this ride, the guests will have the chance to appreciate all the work done in the Estancia. They can participate in the cattle herding around the farm. Also, they can do cattle herding along the rivers, in the open fields. This is an amazing experience; the horses will take you for at least 45 kilometers. The riders will sleep two nights in the Estancia and one night out in a working post.

The estancia

The place is delimited by the Miriñay River and the Curuzu Stream. The main house has 7 rooms with private bathrooms, a common room, big galleries that surround the house and a swimming pool.

The owners are passionate about Criollo horses. Here, they breed and train them. The farm has around 5.000 hectares. Horses are everywhere! For those looking to be in contact with them and nature, this is the perfect spot. Horses are part of everyday activities.

Besides breeding Criollo horses, they also breed Braford cows and sheep. They also practice agriculture. It’s a very complete Estancia.

Activities

Depending on the time of the year, there are different activities. The “yerra” takes place from August to October. This is working with the cows, marking and counting them. Then there are the baths that happen 4 times a year. It consists in passing the cows through a kind of pool that has tick repellent.

As for the sheep, the shearing takes place between July and December. During these months, the “comparsas” travel from estancia to estancia to do the work. These are groups of people in charge of the shearing. They travel from the North to the South of the country.

There is another great horse riding option in November: the horse riding and parade in Curuzu Cuatia.

How to get there?

  • By car. This is the best option. Take Route 9 until Zarate, then National Route 12 to access Mesopotamia through the Zarate Bridge. From there, you continue on a highway, National Route 12 and later National Route 14 until kilometer 438. After the kilometer 437 you must pay attention! You’ll see ahead some silos, before them and to the right you will see a white fence with the name of the Estancia. From there, you continue around 4 kilometers on a gravel road until the main house.
  • By bus. There are many companies that go from Buenos Aires to Curuzú Cuatiá. Once there, you take a private car to the Estancia. You can ask for prices and contacts.

Location

The Estancia is found along National Route 14 in the kilometers 438. It’s in the province of Corrientes.

Other activities for riders and non riders companions

Around the Estancia there are many places to visit. One can come and go from the Estancia, or either continue traveling once the ride is over. Some of the places we recommend are:

  • Esteros de Ibera: This is a good option to do once the riding is over. It’s a few hours away from the Estancia. Once there, you can navigate in the lagoons and take walks to watch the local fauna. The Caraya monkeys are very popular.
  • Dorado fishing: This can be done in the Estancia, in the Curuzu Cuatia River. The place does not have the equipment, so guests must bring their own. They can either do fly fishing or spinning. Another option is to hire a guide. They can take you to “Paso de los Libres”, a good fishing spot that is 75 kilometers away.
  • Handcraft: The surroundings are full of handcraft. It’s worthwhile to take some time to get to know the artisans and their products. It is also a good way of helping the local economy. Wool is very popular in Curuzu Cuatia. “Coronados de Gloria” is a good place to see some local crafts.
  • Yapeyu: It’s 124 kilometers away from San Agustin. You get there by taking a 7 kilometer detour from Route 14. This is the hometown of General San Martin. Guests can still visit the ruins of his house which are carefully guarded by a structure. Yapeyu is a quiet, lovely town that lies on the banks of Uruguay River.
  • Curuzu Cuatia: The place was founded in 1.810 so it has very old constructions. It has many sculptures, colonial facades and a big main square. It has a lovely church, “Nuestra Señora del Pilar de Curuzu Cuatia”, which was built in 1.797.
