The landscape is stunning, especially the colors of the mountains and their enormous cacti. It is said that they are ancient Inca soldiers guarding the place. Itinerary
- Pick up and drop off in your hotel in Salta's city.
- After meeting Rodrigo, the riding starts after lunch in Río Salado where the horses will be waiting. Before, riders will be tested to see their levels and each one will be given an adequate horse. The first day includes going through the Camino Santa Rosa, the “Cienago” (a place that surprises with its vegetation and cardons) and arriving to spend the night at Yalasguala. Here you will have a typical dinner.
- On the second day you’ll visit the majestic rocks of the Calchaquies Valleys. After feeding, brushing and saddling the horses the adventure towards Cafayate begins. You’ll arrive at sunset to enjoy homemade bread and snacks and at night asado.
- The yungas: you will get to the summits where you’ll have a panoramic view of the Calchaquies Valleys and the Lerma Valley (where the riding stops). The road will take you through the real forest or yunga of Salta and all its creatures. The night is spent in Churqui enjoying Salta’s famous empanadas near a bonfire listening to a guitar.
- On the fourth day riding we go up to the Altas Cumbres de la Abra Colorada, El Remasal (3.500 meters) where you can watch the Andean condors flying. Going down, you’ll sleep in the Viejo Rancho. A typical meal: roasted goat with vegetables.
- During the last morning you will visit the town and then ride towards Las Torres (three gigantic pyramids that give you a nice panoramic view of the town). Then you’ll take a transfer to Salta.
- You’ll spend the last night in the House of Jasmines (Casa de los Jazmines) a French family residence with over 100 years of history. It’s located in the outsides of Salta, only 30 minutes away. Ideal to relax after 5 days riding. It has a spa and a heated pool.
Location
The city of Salta is in the province that shares the same name and it's located in the northwest of the country where it's crossed by the tropic of Capricorn. The city lies in the area of the Lerma Valley and it’s characterized by humid weather. To the North we can find the Quebrada de Humahuaca, to the South the Calchaqui Valleys, to the Southwest the great Quebrada del Toro.

The Lerma Valley surrounds the city of Salta and is known for its agricultural production, for its tobacco, its gaucho traditions and its enormous mountains. Its locations are: Cerrillos, Chicoana, La Merced, El Carrillo, Coronel Moldes, and Cabral Corral among others. The dam Cabra Corral is a highlight, one of Argentina’s biggest, with a total surface of 13.000 hectares. It’s great for fishing, there are seven species in its waters and it's the perfect place to practice aquatic sports.
Cerrillos is very well known for its carnavals, in fact, the whole northern region is, every town has its own. Every 17th of June La Fiesta del Gaucho de Güemes is celebrated in Salta, it’s very popular and a real show specially for the horse lovers.
El Parque Nacional Los Cardones is a national park near Salta, 100 km away. It has the biggest diversity of cactuses of the country and also the ones that can be found at greater height.
