Estancia to Estancia Horse Riding in Corrientes
This is a great horse-riding adventure through the Argentinian Estancias, culture and tradition. Corrientes has amazing landscapes, it’s an incredible destination for horse lovers because you can canter in the water and swim with horses in the lagoons.
This ride covers around 150 km in 5 days. It’s an Estancia-to-Estancia trail ride. Estancia la Rosita, owned by Fernando and Guillermo Landgraf, is located in Esquina, Corrientes province. You can get here by plane (around 1 hour flight) or by car, from Buenos Aires (more or less a 7 hour trip).
We chose la Rosita because they really care about horses. Besides doing rides you can also do polo holiday or cattle herding experience.

Itinerary
- Pick up & drop off from Corrientes City Airport. Transport to Esquina, the local town where the estancia is located.
- Check in at the estancia at 22hr. Welcome reception and dinner.
- The first day it will be about knowing the horses; the guides will evaluate each rider's riding level, and then each rider will choose the horse that best suits them. After breakfast riders will go for a ride and cattle herding work at Estancia La Rosita. Then, after lunch, riders will be able to learn the basics of polo and have fun stick and balling in the field. Dinner will be early so riders can get a good sleep and rest before starting the long 150 km horse ride.
- From la Rosita to Estancia La Amistad: after breakfast riders will get ready to start the the first part of the ride. During the morning they will ride more or less 3 hours till an estancia that is located halfway to La Amistad Estancia. There they will lave lunch and will be able to have a “siesta” before starting to ride again. In the afternoon riders will start riding again, this part of the trail will last more or less 2 hours and a half. They will arrive to Estancia La Amistad, where hosts will be waiting for them to have some cocktails and dinner. Guests can have a massage before dinner.
- Heading Estancia Buena Vista: This is one of the best riding days! Riders will be riding 2:30hs during the morning and if it's possible to ride through the wetlands, morning rides can extend up to 3:30 hours. Lunch will take place in the area of the wetlands; it will be a quick picnic lunch. After having a short siesta riders will begin a 2 hour and a half ride to get to Estancia Buena Vista. Once at the Estancia, guests will be able to have afternoon tea and relax in the swimming pool. Dinner and lodging at Estancia Buena Vista.
- Estancia Buena Vista to Estancia La Pelada: The fifth day will be one of the most challenging because during this day riders will reach the shore of the Corrientes River. This is an amazing area; the landscape is breathtaking. Lunch will take place in the shore of the river and then if it is possible, they will cross the river with the horses. Sometimes the weather conditions don't allow riders to reach the other shore of the river by horse so in this case a boat comes to pick them up and take them safe to Estancia La Pelada (located on the other shore of the river). Once in the Estancia they will be able to have some fun watching the famous gaucho game “Ring Game” or “Sortija”. Dinner and lodging at Estancia La Pelada.
- Day six, last day, riders will head back to Estancia La Rosita. This is the longest ride because they will be riding 65 km (more or less 4 hours during the morning and 4 hours during the afternoon). Once back at the Estancia, guests will be able to have afternoon tea and relax by the pool. Check out. (Optional to stay one more night).
- Lodging at 5 comfortable Estancias during the ride. Full board accommodation.
- Horses: there are many horses to choose according to each rider level. First day at the estancia includes a ride and cattle work to get comfortable with horses and get to know each rider's level. Most of the days the rides are of about 2 hours morning and 2 hours afternoon, except for the last day which is the most difficult: 4 hours morning and 4 hours afternoon
- Polo lessons and mini chuckers are included in this option.
- One relaxing massage on the third day to recover muscles for the rest of the cross.

Other activities for riders and non riders companions
The town of Esquina is close to Estancia La Rosita, more or less 19 km away. Esquina is one of the most important cities of the province of Corrientes due to its tourist importance. Here takes place the celebration of “Fiesta Nacional del Pacú” dedicated to the fishing sport, which is very popular in Esquina. During this celebration, fishing lovers from all around Argentina come to celebrate and fish. Esquina has lots of relevance as a fishing destination, and is known for being a great spot to fish “Dorado” and “Surubí '' fish. There are many fishing guides that offer visitors a fishing day tour. This is a good way to get to know the area and to see Esquina from another perspective.
Esquina is a quaint town, its streets are wide and surrounded by old big trees. It's really worth it to take some time to walk around the city, watch the idiosyncrasy of its inhabitants. It is very common to see them during the late afternoon sitting outside their houses drinking mate and chatting between the neighbors. There are some nice places to visit such as The Santa Rita Church (original from 1.846) which stands in front of the 25 de Mayo square.
The Palacio Municipal was built in honor of General San Martin in 1.950. Its particular old tower with electronic watches on each one of its 4 sides is the main attraction of the building.
February is a good time of the year to visit Esquina because it takes place carnival. During this celebration each afternoon “Corsos” (a parade of carriages where the members of each carriage exhibit their costumes and dance to the rhythm of the music) go around the “corsodromos” of “Caru Curá” “Yasi Berá” and “Esquina Samba Show” .
