Horse Ride in the Misiones Jungle

per person

This riding programme is located only 100 km away from Puerto Iguazu where the famous Iguazu Falls are located in the province of Misiones, north east of Argentina (Mesopotamia region).

El Dorado is a town located 105 km away of Puerto Iguazu by the national road number 12, the same road that takes you to Iguazu Falls. The town has a very interesting story. Long ago, around 1919, a German man called Adolfo Julio Schewelm chose this place to establish and found a town. He invited other families from Denmark, New Zeland, Switzerland and Poland to populate this area. That’s how the Lowe family – originally from New Zeland – got to settle their ranch here.

As many of our partners, they are all passionate about horses and country life. Equus Argentina got to know them because once a year they organize Endurance races in their place. This is during the winter when the weather allows it, as in the summer it is super hot and wet.

It’s an ideal place to really get to know the Misiones Jungle and a great combination for those that want to visit Iguazu Falls.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at the estancia. The best way to get to El Dorado is taking a plane from Buenos Aires to Puerto Iguazu. From here a private driver will take riders to the estancia. At arrival, riders will have a welcome drink and settle in their rooms. Edith, the host, will explain about the activities planned for the day. Then, they will have time to relax by the swimming pool or take a walk around the main house.

After having lunch and siesta, riders will get ready for the first adventure. Around 4 pm they will be taken to the saddle place and corrals and they will be introduced to their horses! Once ready, they will go out and get to know the estancia property. The ride will last 3 hours, and they will ride in the jungle. They will see green everywhere!

Around 7 pm they will be back at the main house for afternoon tea and dinner.

Day 2: In the morning after having a homemade breakfast, riders will be invited to work with the gauchos in the corrals. This is the main activity of the estancia. Long time ago, they used to cultivate Yerba Mate but now cows and hosting visitors is their main activity.

After lunch, they will get ready to go out for another ride. This time they will head to the Piray Guazu jungle stream where they will be invited to dismount and discover the river by canoes. Afternoon tea will take place by the river and dinner at the main house.

Day 3: In the morning, after having breakfast, they will do a completely different ride. Today they will get to know the rural trail that passes through other estancias. They will notice the red soil - the main characteristic of Misiones. They will be able to canter along this road. The ride is about 3 hours.

They will be back for lunch time, and after that they will be able to choose between riding again, going for a walk, canoeing again or relaxing by the swimming pool.

Day 4: Check out will take place in the morning after breakfast. Then riders will be taken by a private driver to Iguazu Falls or to the airport.

Location

El Dorado is located 2 hours away from Iguazu Falls.

Other activities for riders and non riders companions

The main activity to do at Puerto Iguazu is visiting the Iguazu Falls National Park. This is shared with Brazil. It's pretty interesting to see both sides of the park because while in the Argentinean side visitors are able to see the falls really close, in the Brazilian side they will be able to see them further away with a different perspective.

The park offers a train ride, which goes around the park main view spots. Visitors can hop in & out the train. In each stop they will be able to walk by the cat walks and get close to the fall jumps. They will also be able to see local fauna, like monkeys that live in the jungle.

Another activity to do at the park is to take a boat and get as close as they can to Garganta del Diablo (The Devil's Throat jump).

Puerto Iguazu town doesn't have much to offer, but it has nice restaurants where the main dishes are fish.

Other interesting places to visit in the area are the Wanda Mines and the old ruins of the San Ignacio Mission.
