Unique & Outstanding Horse Riding Experiences

Cattle Herding in Buenos Aires

per person

Cattle herding in this ancient Estancia of Buenos Aires couldn’t get any better. The place has everything. Besides being amusing and enjoyable, participating in the cattle herding allows the guests to get to know the gauchos and their traditions.

Hand in hand with the Argentinean gauchos, doing cattle herding in Buenos Aires is one of the most authentic and unique experiences. There is nothing like sharing a day of work with the gauchos in the great Argentinean Pampas. And just a step away from Buenos Aires city!

Activities

Horse riding is for sure the main activity of this Estancia. There is always work to do. Between the main activities we can name the cattle herding and the breeding of sheep. Also, they breed polo horses.

There is more information about the horse riding activities in the tour plan.

The Estancia

This old Estancia is in Buenos Aires province, just 250 kilometres away from the capital city. It belongs both to the Dolores and Tordillo party.

The house has 9 rooms, most of them are en suite. All of them have a fireplace and Wi-Fi. From the dining room, the view sinks into an imposing park bordered by groves of Carolinian and Casuarinas poplars. Then, they turn into a horseshoe-shaped forest, and end up circling part of the tajamar.

Finally, the structure of the house consists of two wings. On one hand, the oldest and original was built in 1.820. On the other hand, the newest was built in 1.947. It has a high influence of Rio de la Plata architecture. The large windows and galleries reflect a criollo style.

History

Legend says that the name of the Tordillo party comes from a wild horse that lived in the area. His fur was gray, which in Spanish is called “todrillo”. Nobody could ever catch him.

These plains located south of the Salado River were dominated by the Indians. Later, in 1.740, the Jesuits came along. In order to extend civilization, they effected the conversion of the natives.

It was near the year 1.814 that the Federalist Governor of the city of Buenos Aires, Juan Manuel Ortiz de Rosas, settled in the Estancia. Together with other rulers and landowners, they saw in these lands a promising future of exploitation.
